Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer (Power Prove)
Reporting to: Division Director
Salary: £37K to £42K
Benefits: Discretionary bonus scheme, 4% contributory Pension, Life Insurance, Health Cash Plan, Cycle to Work, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, free parking, free tea and coffee, Friday early finish
Hours: 37.75 (standard hours are 8.15 to 17.00 Monday to Thursday, 8.15 to 13.00 Friday but may be some flexibility on this)
Location: Leicester – Occasional site and customer visits may be required
Job Overview:
We seek a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to support the engineering team of our load bank division, Power Prove. In this pivotal role, you’ll contribute to the design of electrical equipment for industrial applications. Your responsibilities will include implementing mechanical best practices, adhering to industry standards, and collaborating with the design team to create innovative solutions. The successful candidate should have hands-on design experience and a solid grasp of mechanical engineering principles, along with basic knowledge of electrical engineering.
Responsibilities:
• Review design requirements and produce design calculations and production documentation (resistor element and design overview sheets).
• Create 3D models (primarily sheet parts) and assemblies, issuing designs for manufacture through engineering drawings and supplementary documentation (Bills of Materials, etc.).
• Review and approve design information from other team members.
• Adhere to quality systems, including using Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to document changes.

• Participate in research, development, and product testing as agreed with the Division Director.
• Conduct technical investigations, perform root cause analysis, and initiate corrective actions.
• Provide technical support to Production, Sales, Service, and Customer Support.
• Deliver projects on schedule and within budget, managing a complex workload efficiently.
• Apply relevant design, regulatory, and industry standards.
• Identify and apply new industry-wide processes within the company.
• Perform additional duties as required.
Skills, Qualification and Experience:
Essential
• Significant number of years of mechanical design experience, preferably
with electrical equipment.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering.
• Familiarity with CE marking processes and DFMEA.
• Experience in designing electrical equipment and/or machinery.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and sheet metal design.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with
design teams, office staff, and manufacturing operatives.
Desirable
• Experience with HVAC systems would be advantageous.
• Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD and Vault is advantageous.

Targets:
• Work to deadlines and KPI targets set by the engineering manager.
• Interact with Sales, Production and Test departments to optimise designs and resolve fabrication and assembly issues in a timely manner
The Company:
An established electrical equipment manufacturer with over 100 years of experience. Design and manufacture high power electrical resistors used in electricity generation, transmission and distribution as well as in the industrial automation, marine, telecoms and rail transit markets.
Applications for products include the filter and neutral earthing for MV and HV systems, the dynamic braking of motors and industrial drives and the load testing of batteries and generators. Supply to large contractors, OEMs and end users throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
