Job Description

Our client are a family run manufacturing business based in Telford. Our client and produce mobile exhibition vehicles, mobile libraries and mobile clinics for a wide array of blue chip companies and household names.

A position within the design team has become available for a Technical Vehicle Designer.

A background in Solidworks CAD is required with a keen eye for detail. As a Technical Vehicle Designer, you will be tasked with taking a customers previously agreed design, from the tyres upwards, and producing working drawings for the factory to manufacture from.

Each element of the build will be your responsibility to design, such as the chassis/ subframe, vehicle body, furniture, moving parts/ working mechanisms, generator install and hydraulic systems working within Torton’s standard build methods and previous build examples.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Produce 2D drawings to support the sales teams pitch
  • Produce 2D drawings to issue to the production manager and suppliers
  • Produce 3D working models
  • Attending client meetings to understand the brief required
  • Working on multiple designs simultaneously
  • Oversee build progress
  • Other ad-hoc duties as required

Skills and Experience

  • Solidworks experience is required
  • Mechanical or engineering experience is required
  • Experience in SWOOD would be advantageous
  • Experience in trailers and/ or commercial vehicles would be advantageous
  • Ability to multi-task
  • IT literate including MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Plus other design specific programmes
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Confident, approachable and enthusiastic

Specific training on the product range would be provided with an element of learning on the job expected from the outset. We are looking for someone who is wanting to establish a long term position with the company and learn a unique market which they are in.

Salary: Subject to experience

Start date flexible subject to notice period

Pay: £25,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
